NECAT MEMBER COMPETITION:
The Host with the Most
Any NECAT Producer, whether or not you have a show already running or are just starting with us.
Entry Fee Payment Deadline:
If you wish to compete, you must have paid your entry fee by 5:00 pm on June 1, 2015.
What does it cost to enter the competition?
$35 – in house Producers
$50 – out of house Producers
Episode Submission Deadline:
Final completed product must be turned in to NECAT by 5:00 pm Friday, September 25th.
RULES OF THE COMPETITION:
- Filming must be completed in 1 five-hour studio booking. After booking the studio, let Katie know which date you will be shooting your segment.
- Each competing Producer can only enter one episode into the competition.
- Submitted episodes must be 28:30 exactly.
- As a Producer you can choose to host, or bring in a different host. However, all responsibility for the production and the host’s performance will fall on you.
- You may shoot off site or in the NECAT studio.
- Producers must interview the guest assigned to them. Guests will be assigned by 5:00pm June 10th.
- Extra points will be awarded to any Producer who includes our Spring Break High Schools students or our Pearl Cohn High School partner students. A list of those students will be provided by Katie upon request.
Each submitted episode will be judged in the following categories:
info revealed about guest – Does the viewer get a complete understanding of the guests and their specific projects?
preparedness of the host – Does the host ask interesting questions, offering the guest a chance to elaborate on specific topics? Has the host done his research on the guest beforehand?
warmth of host – Does the host provide a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for guests and viewers?
desire created to watch another episode – Would viewers want to watch more episodes like this one?
cliffhangers – Does the closing of the show encourage viewers to tune in next time?
set design – Is the set/green screen visually stimulating? Does it match the topic and enhance the look and feel of your show?
lighting design – Does the lighting enhance the appearance of the people and the set? Does it improve the overall look of the show?
audio quality – Is the audio consistent and balanced for all speakers? Can viewers comfortably hear what is being said?
wardrobe choices – Are the host and guest wearing clothing that is appropriate to the setting and topic? Does their clothing work well with the overall look of the show?
camera angles – Are there interesting camera angles to hold viewers’ attention?
smoothness of production shoot in the studio – Were there any problems noted by NECAT/PEG staff during the production shoot (not enough crew members, guests lost on campus, area left messy, etc.)?
technical knowledge of production team – Did the technical team have to rely on PEG Studio staff to assist them with their production? Was the team able to complete their shoot with a basic understanding of all the equipment?
Awards will be given in these categories:
Awards will be handed out at the October Community Meeting
The Host with the Most! – Award for Best Overall Show
Best Interview Style – acknowledging warmth, preparedness, and clarity
Best Set Design – Best doesn’t have to be complicated; make the most of your simple set through clever angles and textures!
Best Lighting Design – acknowledging best use of 3 point lighting to create a well lit show.
Best Production Shoot – acknowledging preparedness, skill, guest relations, and cleanup
Best Audio – acknowledging consistently clear and balanced audio
Best Graphics – acknowledging compelling logos and on-screen text
Winners of all awards will:
Have their names posted at NECAT, on necatnetwork.org, and in our social media
Be included in a press release to media throughout Nashville
Be acknowledged in program breaks on all 3 channels
The Host with the Most will receive an extra time slot and one extra studio booking (5 instead of 4 on the studio calendar at any time) for 1 year.
