No. PBS is a NATIONAL nonprofit BROADCAST network. NECAT is a LOCAL nonprofit CABLECAST station providing LOCAL programs produced by LOCAL residents. For more information or questions about PBS, call (865) 595-0220.
PEG stands for Public Education Government, representing the 3 categories of programming provided by a PEG station. These stations exist when a cable provider moves into a city. They pay the local government franchise fee. They are also required by law to provide free air waves for the broadcast of community arts and education. It is up to the local government to decide if they will establish a PEG station in their community. In our case, Metro Nashville Government has provided this service to the community.
These channels are Music City Arts (our arts channel), iQtv (our education channel), and Access Nashville (our community access channel). All 3 channels are 24 hours a day and are broadcast on television via Comcast channels 9, 10, and 19 in Davidson County, via AT&T U-Verse channel 99 in 19 middle TN counties, and livestreamed on the internet 24 hours/day via www.necatnetwork.org.

There are two ways to be a Producer at NECAT.
In-House-Producer: This type of Producer, uses our studio and equipment to film their show. In order to become an In-House-Producer, you would first need to be trained on our equipment and studio rules. To do this, you would need to take both our Production Level 1 class and our Production Level 2 class, which you can find our more about on our Class Information Page. You will also need to volunteer on three production shoots, led by other Producers. This allows you to get real studio production experience before you begin producing yourself.
Once you have completed both Production classes, volunteered on three production crews, and paid your annual membership fee of $75, you can begin booking the studio for taping of your own show!
Out-Of-House-Producer: This type of Producer creates all aspects of their show outside of our studio. Out-Of-House-Producers owe the annual membership of $75 and then can simply drop off their show or upload it via our website.

They are not there to help you produce your show. You must bring your own NECAT certified crew members to operate the camera equipment.
